Tanya Hristova is the first woman to serve as Mayor of Gabrovo, Bulgaria, now in her fourth consecutive term. She is widely recognised for her leadership in sustainable urban transformation and in advancing inclusive, citizen-centred governance. Under her stewardship, Gabrovo received the European Green Leaf Award 2021 and was selected to join the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, reflecting its long-term strategic commitment to climate action and innovation.
At European level, she is First Vice-Chair of the SEDEC Commission of the European Committee of the Regions, where her portfolio spans education, research, culture, social affairs and demographic change. She is also a Board Member of the Covenant of Mayors – Europe and serves on the Advisory Board of the EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, contributing to the shaping of Europe’s climate, energy and community-driven development agenda.
