Before taking office as Director of the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) in February 2024, Laurence already had strong ties to the service. She was involved in the development and implementation of CAMS from its inception while serving at INERIS, the French public institution for Industrial Environment and Risks.
At INERIS, Laurence acted as Director of Strategy, Scientific Policy and Communications, and until 2020, she managed the environmental modelling and decision-making department, which handles, in particular, the French air quality platform Prev’Air.
She has a strong background across all areas covered by the service, including Earth observation, atmosphere composition modelling, data assimilation, environmental regulations, and other CAMS thematic areas.
Since 2014, she has chaired the EMEP Steering Body, the scientific program that addresses air pollutant concentrations, deposition and monitoring and control under the UNECE Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution.
She obtained her PhD in Applied Mathematics at Bordeaux University in 1995
