Marcel Langner is currently the acting head of Division II ‘Environmental Health and Protection of Ecosystems’ at the Umweltbundesamt (UBA, German Environmental Protection Agency). Since 2023 he is also heading the Air Quality Department at the UBA. He joined the UBA in 2013 by leading the unit ‘General Aspects of Air Quality Management’.

Before joining the UBA he worked eight years as a postdoc researcher at the Humboldt University of Berlin in projects related to urban ecology, air pollution and heat stress.

Marcel Langner holds a diploma degree in geoecology from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and received a PhD from the KIT in 2005 investigating the uptake of airborne particles by urban roadside trees.
