The HungAIRy project aims to reduce air pollution and create a healthier environment in ten Hungarian municipalities. This goal is achieved through the implementation of local air quality measures, awareness-raising activities, and the establishment of a national network of experts and advisors.
Modern monitoring instruments and sensor networks are installed to provide real-time air quality data. These new measurements give a more accurate picture of air pollutant concentrations and support decision-making at both local and national levels.
A modern air quality modelling tool is developed to support the biennial review of municipal air quality plans. The tool allows for estimating the expected impact of measures aimed at improving air quality and identifying areas where interventions are likely to be most effective.
Eco-managers work in the partner municipalities to coordinate local air quality measures, inform residents, promote awareness, engage stakeholders, and actively participate in reviewing air quality plans. The network ensures that effective measures are implemented and that residents are actively involved in improving air quality.
The project implements broad information and education programs to help residents understand how they can reduce air pollution in their daily lives. Special attention is given to environmentally friendly heating, improving energy efficiency, proper green waste management, and promoting sustainable transportation. A demonstration house is also built, allowing residents to gain direct experience with energy-efficient solutions.
Sustainable transport developments are being implemented in the cities. The project promotes cycling and introduces a smart parking system, a loading area online booking system, as well as intelligent traffic management solutions.
The project aims to reduce the use of inefficient heating methods through local regulations, optimization of the firewood supply chain, and composting programs. It also supports the promotion of district heating and local measures to improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
Green space developments are being implemented as part of the project to improve air quality in municipalities. Additionally, a green space cadastre is being prepared to support more effective maintenance and development of green areas.
The project supports farmers in adopting more environmentally friendly methods. The goal is to reduce agriculture-related air pollution and promote soil-friendly, sustainable technologies.
